“Photography is a dance with time, circumstances, motifs, light and other influences of the real world. It is a craft that I have refined over the years – and that we might no longer need in the future, because I personally believe that a large part of photography will be replaced by AI images,” says Maan Limburg.

“I do not regret this per se, because I personally doubt that we need even more conventional, boring pictures. But to the same extent that it is becoming increasingly easier to create images using AI, it will become more difficult to find people who create something new and original. It can already be observed that many pictures are repetitions of other pictures. In any case, when I look around the server of Midjourney, there is already a deafening amount of generic, average images that all look the same – a feeling that I also get when scrolling on Instagram,” says the photographer.

For her, it is clear: “The demand for pictures will change, as will our ideas of what makes an artist special. At least I expect a big change in my work area. That’s why I’m looking for ways to get involved, to learn, to adapt – without forgetting my value as a photographer and artist. With the increasing ease of image creation with AI, the challenge for photographers is to create something new instead of copying images. I do not believe that AI is the death of photography, but rather its rebirth than a real art form. We no longer need photography to create images for our digital life, so we can now use them more freely.”
