In the photo series Like Stone (2020), Limburg explores whether she can capture, dramatise and depict a standstill through photography. By working with movement, liquid substances and living elements, Limburg explores the boundaries between the two-dimensionality of photography and the stateliness of Hellenistic sculpture. The nudity of the model evokes feelings of vulnerability and longing, while both the models from the past and the models of today are completely untouchable to the viewer.

“The year 2020 made me feel trapped in time. In the days and months that were freed up by the lockdown, I started researching other art that seems to freeze time. I rediscovered the Hellenistic sculpture style, in which marble is carved so lifelike that it looks as if the statues could walk away.”

Like Stone work was on view during FotoFestival Naarden 2021.
